Educational Webcast: Software Quality Assurance--A New Approach to IT Updates
April 15, 2014

Presented by Array Software and Iatric Systems
In 2011, faced with major HIS software updates and the planned addition of four more hospitals to their multi-facility network in 2013, Steward Health Care decided to implement a formal Software Quality Assurance (SQA) process to address their increasingly complex software management needs. Cheryl Menard was hired to implement SQA at Steward Health Care.
Steward Health Care System is an Accountable Care Organization and a hospital network comprised of 11 hospitals with 2,000+ beds and 17,000 employees in Eastern Massachusetts. The organization recently completed a very successful upgrade of their system to MEDITECH version 6.07.
Cheryl will offer an informed perspective on why a comprehensive SQA process was built from the ground up at Steward Health Care, and why more formalized Software Quality Assurance processes are critical for healthcare organizations.
The presentation will provide a high-level introduction to Software Quality Assurance, and address the questions:
• What is SQA?
• What are the principles of SQA?
• Why should healthcare organizations consider implementing SQA?
You will leave this session with a better understanding of what SQA is, how it helps manage the complex software updates across all platforms and applications, and why it is important for your healthcare organization to consider implementing SQA. This presentation is the first of a two-part series. The second presentation will focus on how Steward Health Care implemented a formal Software Quality Assurance program and provide guidance on how you can implement your own.
